1. Akira, 1988, Katsuhiro Ohtomo, 124mins.  18/10/12 Akira is about a motorbike gang whose friend gets taken for a secret military project which endangers Neo-Tokya. It turns him into a rampaging psionic psychopath who can only be stopped by two kids and a group of psionics. This film was an animated anime type film. Although the film was very well made being stop motion and drawings it just wasnt all that interesting to me. I watched the film with interest to see what was happening but with all anime films i find them very 2D and samey. It was also an extremly long film which seamed to drag on a bit, which could have been comftabley put into 90mins making it less straining on the viewer. Also a bit ‘weird’ the whole style and narrative just seamed to familiar!

  2. Modern Times, 1936, Charles Chaplin. Chaplin plays a tramp in modern times who finds it hard to fit into the new modern industral society. With help of a homeless woman he trys to find work and a house to live in. This film I liked with the comical genius that Chaplin is every scene never goes without a chuccle or a big smile! Unlike Man with a movie camera, this film kept me entertained all the way through interested to find out what happens at the end. With no sound but some music gives a different effect that to what I am used to. With it being in black and white as well as no talking it didnt even enter my mind, the thought that there should be voices was hidden with the interest with what was in front of my eyes and without the colour I just didnt realise untill I thought about it..and im not colour blind!!

  3. Man With A Movie Camera, 1929, by Dziga Vertov. 68mins This film is about Dziga Vertov who has filmed events happening is russia including the soviet union. You see film clips of things that he has captured with his lens throughout russia using stylised effects and in one part stop-motion. Along with this we also see clips of him filming as well as his wife cutting and putting the film together. Although there are some interesting clips within this film without the music from live Orchestras when played in theatres at the time and now just added over the top I feel asthough he may as well have just taken photographes as these could have been looked into in more detail as well as capturing a specific moment. The film is 60mins long excluding credits etc… and after a while it gets a bit repetative. For a 30min film I think his effects would have been more effective as the audiences attension starts to get lost when no narrative can keep them entertained. An interesting film to watch to see what he has filmed but as I said before from my point of view, photographes would have been just as good!

  7. Actions Speak Louder Than Words

    — 

    When thinking about giving my rhyme a name insted of the brief tital I quickly gave it ‘Little Boy Ben’ which yes explains the rhyme, but I wanted something a bit more insightful and imagionative than that. Then this quote suddenly popped into my head, and at first I thought no this wont work, but then I thought more about it and thought yes it would, its exactly what my poems all about!

    The fact of my argument for my rhyme/animation is that the military and services do things themselfs physically to get to where they are (Ranks) rather than being a ‘someone’ such as V.I.P and to me this title explains that. For this as you would say ‘Job’ is everything to that one person and not anyone else, any parents, past history, family tree or what they say, but what they do to be a great person in their jobs will effect it. So this is why I feel this title sums it up in 5 words!

So feedback from Newport yesterday; Had a really good day up there showing around my mum and boyfriend for the first time and me and my dad for the second.  I found out a lot more information about the university and about the accommodation more so.  There are two places that I could stay if i get a Merit, Opal accommodation about a 5 minute walk away from the city campus (the main campus were I could be based) and the Caerleon campus accommodation. With the Opal accommodation its new big bright all en-suit with a choice of a double bed as well with some of the rooms. Really nice rooms plenty of room shared kitchen and in a really secure building. The only problem is that its away from the student life of the Caerleon campus which has the SU, gym, bar, games room and main things are. Opal does have a area for pool playstation and chilling out but is away from all this, yes only a 10-15min bus journey away I still feel asthough id be away from it all? But that all seams like, Well durr go to the Caerloen campus then?! But then theres a problem there to! Although yes the rooms are nice, there a bit old and dated and are in need of some refurbishment. There smaller than the Opal ones with not as nice facitlties and more flat like but for a one year stay they would do.  With me I’m a really environmental based worker! And to me the Caerleon accommodation just seams a bit small enclosed and dark for someone who like a lot of light space and openness, but then I want to be were all the student life is! AHH decisions any help?!

    So started my journey at 6.30 this morning and nearly at Newport for there open day! Just stuck in some lovely traffic at the moment but should be about 20mins away :D
